Cycling Across America

For the Creative Arts Academy
Our friend and generous donor decided he was going to take a journey across the United States by bike. As if that isn't amazing enough on its own, he chose to turn his journey into a fundraiser to support the unique and innovative education of the Creative Arts Academy.

“Tomorrow is promised to no one.”
                                           - Walter Payton
I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland but currently have a home in Davenport, Iowa. As a young boy, I enjoyed playing baseball and watching the Orioles. While studying business at the University of Baltimore, I also studied photography at the Maryland Institute of Arts.  Photography is a passion that has continued throughout my life. I enjoy seeing beauty through a lens and capturing history at a specific moment and share it with the world repeatedly. I have spent my professional life working in a variety of industries both domestically and internationally. My art education has provided me with the tools to successfully solve complex business issues by using a different lens than a more traditional approach.
I had a desire and a dream to cycle across the US. I decided to marry this dream in a partnership with an organization that demonstrates passion and commitment to the arts, The Creative Arts Academy of the Quad Cities (CAA.) The CAA administration and staff are dedicated to Youth, Education and Art (YEA). The school excels in providing project-based education that naturally lends itself to the community as a classroom. Creativity and authenticity are the tenents of how I conduct myself both professionally and personally. These are the tenents of the CAA. The purpose of my coast-to-coast ride is to inspire those who have a dream, create an awareness of CAA, and raise funds for the CAA. These funds will be able to service even more Youth with the opportunities that the school offers.

As is true of any noteworthy cause, the ride includes a collaborative effort of others.  Current Director of CAA Joel Franken and his wife, Diane, both of whom are founders and Co-Directors of artsBASICS, a strong supporter of the CAA.  Jessica Taylor, CAA Director of Development, Caitlan Amburn, Social Media Extraordinaire, and Laura Murphy-Wolf, my loving wife and CAA Board Member at Large.

Now let's get rolling

The mission of the Creative Arts Academy of the Quad Cities is to infuse student learning with creativity and innovation applied through a career-oriented arts foundation that prepares students for a global marketplace.

The community is our classroom.

The methods of the Creative Arts Academy take student learning to a new level. Using methods such as Project Based Learning and Arts Integration, Creative Arts students are learning how to learn and to develop a lifelong passion for learning. We partner with numerous local, regional, and international organizations and artists to find real world experiences for students - giving them the tools to change the world through their knowledge.
